Spooky treats.

This weekend was filled with all things autumnal with a lot of Halloween thrown in.

Friday night was our ward's "Autumn Carnival" which was a lot of fun. Well done to those who made all the effort to plan it! It definitely paid off and was clear to see that everyone was having fun. I especially loved the hot pork rolls with stuffing & apple sauce. SO good!

On Saturday, me and Anna got up bright and early and hit Hobby Craft, Tesco & Sainsbury's. Let me tell you- Its hard to source tinned pumpkin puree in this country! Anyway, we bought our ingredients and spent all afternoon baking up a storm/making a mess/gossiping/laughing. My main objectives were to make a beautiful pumpkin pie and the best cinnamon rolls ever to be known to man. Now these two recipes aren't exactly throw-it-all-in-a-bowl-and-mix, so it was a pretty big task to me. I'm talking "The Great British Bake Off" standard. Okay not quite but, this is how everything turned out:

Not too bad if I don't say so myself. And when our hubby's returned after doing who knows what all afternoon, they seemed pretty pleased with our efforts too. Trophy wives or what? The most popular picks were pretty much anything Anna made and my cinnamon rolls. My pumpkin pie looked good but I just don't like the taste of all those spices. Its either an acquired taste or I didn't do it right! (Josh even admitted that the cupcakes Anna made were better than mine. Charming. But sadly true).

We even carved some pumpkins which I was particularly excited about. If anyone used to read my old blog, they may remember me blogging about how much of a disaster last year's Halloween was. I had planned all these Halloween-y things for us to do but stupidly left it until the 31st to go out and buy everything which was silly as there was nothing left! Big disappointment. So needless to say I was determined to make this year a hit! Now we have these extremely scary pumpkins that bring a decorative touch to our home for the run up to Halloween.

After a looooong day of baking, we were ready to slump onto the couch and watch a spooky film. It wasn't exactly a horror but it was enough for me. "World War Z" was about the scariest I was willing to go!

We had such a fun time trying new recipes and getting into the Halloween spirit. The good thing about baking is that you get to eat your end result which is a bonus. We ended up baking enough for about 30 people so it's safe to say that 5 days on, I'm happy to never eat a cupcake or cinnamon roll again for a little while

I definitely recommend trying the recipe for the cinnamon rolls I made. They were not as difficult as I first thought so I'll post the recipe when I get the chance!

Enjoy!!
