12 dates of christmas

Last year I did "12 days of Christmas" for Josh and he loved it. I planned a little inexpensive gift each day, some costing nothing at all and merely being an act of service for him, other days giving him something he needed. I love birthdays and Christmas because I love giving gifts to people that I know they're going to love. Not that I'm saying I'm an amazing gift giver but anything that will make that person feel special gives me a little buzz. So 12 days of Christmas for my husband was right up my street.

This year he asked if I was going to do it again, and honestly I had no intention of doing it at first. The reason I wanted to do it last year for him is because it was our first Christmas together as husband and wife and I wanted it to be memorable and special for him. He looked a bit gutted when I said I wasn't going to do it again so I decided that I should and got my thinking cap on. The only thing was that I had no fresh ideas from the year before and I didn't want to give the same gifts as last year. Then a couple of weeks later the light bulb came. Instead of "12 Days of Christmas" I decided to do "12 DATES of Christmas".

So day 1 was on Friday and I've planned a little date for each day until Christmas. Some dates don't cost much money but I figured that Christmas time is a special time of year and you should make more effort to spend it with the people you love. Going on these dates isn't about going to fancy restaurants or boast about how I'm doing a nice thing for my husband, its about spending quality time together. Which is something that I feel we've not had recently as Josh has been really busy at work. So 12 consecutive dates together was sounded perfect to me.

Here's what we got up to the first weekend...

Friday was our nephews baptism. We were glad that Scarlett got to come and see what a baptism was really like. For some reason she had it in her head that it was going to be something scary? I don't know.

Saturday started off with snuggles in bed from a certain little lady. We love that she runs into our bed in the mornings. We love that its never before 8am even more though.

In the afternoon we babysat for 8 of our nieces and nephews and watched "Elf" with them. It was a full house but the kids all love to be together so we didn't mind! Celeste insisted she wore Scarlett's witches Halloween costume for the whole afternoon so excuse the pointy hat. Little cutie!

In the evening the 3 of us went to the cinema to watch the new Disney movie "Frozen" which we all really liked! I totally have Disney princess envy for Elsa. She is gorge and I kept thinking how much I loved her makeup (weird?) We all sang along terribly to the soundtrack after watching it. The songs are great. Definitely buying it on DVD when it comes out!

On Sunday I cooked Brunch for our  third "date" when we came home from church. I love breakfast food and could eat it at anytime of the day! We had waffles and hot chocolate afterwards while we watched "Home Alone" but a certain someone only liked the cream on top...

On Sunday night we then went to his parents for their annual Christmas bauble night. They have a massive 15ft Christmas tree in their hallway (just a guess... I have no idea how tall it actually is but its huge!) So for the past few years they invite all the family round to put a bauble on the tree and we each share a Christmas story, poem or scripture. It was lovely! Below is the 2 baubles we have taken the last couple of years. A tartan one and Father Christmas!

(Scarlett picking the right spot for her Father Christmas to go)

This is all of the kids (although a couple are missing!) They all love to be together but strangely get very mischievous and loud when they're all at the same place at the same times haha. I would've loved to have had this many cousins growing up. Its such fun for them.

I'll try to blog about each day after they pass as I know he reads this so don't want to give anything away too early!
