Thankfully I've only been in this mind set for a matter of weeks and I feel grateful that I've come to recognise how destructive it can be. So in an attempt to make things right I've decided to start writing about the little things in life that often go unnoticed but make me genuinely happy. Sometimes when the news is on TV in the background, I'll stop and get caught by a story that makes me so sad and its at those times when I humble myself and realise how good I have it. Happiness shouldn't be taken for granted or expected. I feel truly blessed to have things in my life on daily basis that make me happy. Even if I don't always thank God for those things.
This past week hasn't been particularly exciting but as I reflect back on what has gone on each day, I am grateful that I can find at least one thing that made me smile every day. And I think it's important to share what makes you happy because it has a funny way of being contagious.
What made me smile this past week:
1. Having flowers in the house.
If we could afford it I would have flowers in every room of the house. They're so beautiful. It is my dream to walk into a room filled with flowers. So romantic.
2. I had an unexpected day off last Tuesday and I enjoyed every single minute of staying in my PJ's all day. I had the intention to clean the house from top to bottom and even go on a run (pha!) but it all went out of the window and instead I read, drank hot chocolate with a mountain of squirty cream on top and watched endless episodes of Cake Boss. Mid afternoon I started to feel a tad guilty that the washing wasn't done and the carpets hadn't been hovered, but I soon shrugged it off and reminded myself of the quote "do more of what makes you happy". I will add that the housework did eventually get done afterwards.
3. My little year 1's.

There is something about working with cute 4/5 year olds that just makes you smile. I love when they all wrap their little arms around my waist when I least expect it or when they all look so delighted when I walk into the classroom (not blowing my own trumpet but its so heart warming).
4. Speaking of little cuties...

6. On Friday night when Josh got home from work, we went to Tesco (as usual) and bought loads of chocolate and sweets (as usual) for our movie night. As we sat on the couch waiting for the film to start, he turn to me with a big smile on his face and then gave me a squeeze telling me how much he loves his Friday nights when we're together. According to him its the best part of the week and I smiled back. I have always loved it too but had never thought to tell him. He's a good husband.
So there we have it. I have now claimed this song to be my jam from now on. Every time I hear it, it just makes me feel so happy and brings back good memories. Definitely listen to it.

This little one was pretty unwell over the weekend which made me feel so much love for her. In an effort to take her off the couch and take her mind off feeling rubbish, we made play dough and sat on the kitchen floor for ages making different shapes. She loved it and seemed her normal self for that short hour or so.
5. My sister Jennifer and her husband Paul came down to visit us at the weekend so that of course made me happy. I love seeing my family whenever I can since we all live apart. We had a great time altogether even though we never done anything particularly exciting. I love having people in my life that you can be lazy with and genuinely enjoy their company. It felt so good to have them around for a couple of days.
