New York

Towards the end of 2014, Josh and I decided that we needed to make the most of the time we have together during this chapter of our lives. We vowed to each other that we would do all we could to try and travel as much as possible during 2015 and really make it a year that we'll remember for the rest of our lives.

So off New York we went.

Spending the first few days of a brand new year in a city that you have always dreamed of doesn't get much sweeter. I have wanted to visit NYC for as long as i can remember so to say i was excited was an understatement.

Unfortunately for me, i spent our first whole first day in bed as i had some sort of virus that caused to me throw up every hour on the hour during the night. It was a horrible start to our trip but thankfully only lasted a day.

I was determined to get out on our second day so we took a stroll down from our hotel to Central Park and soaked in the beauty of the city. I wish we had more time that day to have a really good wander around but the park is so massive it would have taken us all day and we had a lot on our list. After iceskating in one of the most romantic back drops i've ever experienced, we sauntered in and out of shops along fifth avenue just as tiny snow flakes started to fall and treated ourselves to some his and hers belated christmas gifts.

Our third day was a Sunday and the air was filled with that lovely relaxing feeling that makes you want to lay in bed until midday then grab some brunch at a local cafe. Thanks to our body clocks though we were out of the hotel by 9am so used the morning to take in a few other sights, including Grand Central Station. After being inside i now understand why they call it grand. Such a beautiful place that makes you feel as though you're in a movie.

We jumped on a train to Connecticut and 50 minutes later, we were reunited with some of Josh's family who took us to church. We whispered to each other whilst we were sat in the chapel how grateful we were that the church felt the same regardless of where you go in the world. We spent a lovely day with the McMullin family and were so grateful for their kindness in welcoming us into their home.

Monday was our last full day and we had so much still left on our to do list, luckily we managed to get a lot squeezed before 3pm. We took a (very) speedy elevator ride unto the top of the Rockefeller Centre, which was definitely one of my many highlights of the trip. It was a beautiful, blue-skied, crisp day and the views were just liked you'd imagine them to be. I couldn't take enough pictures as i wanted to always remember what it was like up there that morning. So incredible!

We also headed to the Manhattan temple which was cool to see. Reminded us both a lot of the Hyde Park chapel in London.

We then headed to Wall Street which Josh was eager to do the whole trip so we was glad to get to see the NYC stock exchange and, of course, the famous bull.

Ground Zero was so beautiful and almost chilling. The reflecting pools are bigger than i ever expected them to be which hits home how huge these buildings were. Engraves around the pools are the names of every person that was killed that day. We noticed a few white roses dotted around which we were told means its that persons birthday- such a beautiful touch. Its a really sad but almost peaceful place to go.

Another thing that was high on out to do list was to see The Statue of Liberty so we took the free ferry ride over to Staten Island and admired her the whole way there, and the whole way back.

Monday night we caught the subway over to Brooklyn and headed to the Barclays Centre to watch the Brooklyn Nets. We were so lucky to have VIP tickets and were only a few rows back which heightened the whole experience to another level. Neither of us have ever been to a basketball game so aren't the most familiar with the rules etc but Josh soon picked it up and was able to explain the basics to me. It was a really close game so the crowd were electric towards the end in the final crucial minutes. They didn't win the game but they were so close!

We spent our last day doing what needs to be done in New York... shopping. This was the thing i had been looking forward to the whole trip so definitely took advantage of the price difference in MAC. One of my favourite stores had to be Sephora. That place is make up heaven- all amazing brands and no annoying sales staff breathing down your neck while you're trying to decide what to buy. Britain need a few of them asap!

Before leaving, we found a typical NY pizza place, bought a couple of slices and then took one last
yellow cab ride back to JKF and said goodbye to a place we so quickly fell in love with.

We both agreed that 5 nights just isn't enough time to see everything New York has to offer so i guess we'll just have to visit again sometime soon. Next time we'd love to stay in the Summer so we can experience the city in a different light. We had such a great time and as always, it was nice to spend quality time together before life starts up again and work and university take over.

Im grateful for a new year full of promise and adventure. I hope you all had a great start to the year- you know what they say: START AS YOU MEAN TO GO ON, and we definitely did. Here's to 2015 being our year of fun!
